My daughter has been consistently asking when we’re going to the beach since Winter. And since the weather in Virginia was really nice last Saturday, we decided to do a quick family trip to Brownie’s Beach (Bay Front Park) in Calvert County, Maryland. Today, I’m going to share everything you need to know about Brownie’s Beach (Bay Front Park).
Make sure to read towards the end, I’m hosting a Mother’s Day Giveaway with other fabulous moms where you can win $300 Target Gift Card!
Brownie’s Beach (also known as Bay Front Park), is one of the local beaches in Maryland, like Sandy Point State Park. It’s a small beach on the western shore of Chesapeake Bay, which is one-half mile south of the Chesapeake beach. The park opens at 6am and closes as 9pm. It’s around an hour drive from Northern Virginia or Washington, D.C., so it’s perfect for a day trip. You can read more about them here.
There Is An Admission Fee
On summer months, from Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day, non-town residents must pay an admission to use the park. Admission fees are waived active military personnel and veterans at Brownie’s Beach (Bay Front Park) on certain holidays. View a complete list of these holidays and their most up-to-date rates here.
There Is No Lifeguard On Duty
There is no lifeguard on duty at Brownie’s Beach (Bay Front Park) so you’ll be swimming at your own risk. The good thing though is the water is shallow and the waves are very gentle. It’s actually perfect for kids to play in. We saw people far away from the shore and the water didn’t even hit above their knees.
There Is A Short Walk From The Parking To The Beach
You’re going to have to walk for around 5 minutes to get to the beach from the parking lot. It’s not a big inconvenience at all; but if you have tons of stuff with you and have kids in tow, then that might be tough.
The Amenities Are Very Limited
Parking at Brownie’s Beach (Bay Front Park) is very limited so you’ll have to be there early to find a spot. There were probably around 20 spots (or even less) available. We arrived there around 10am on a Saturday and all the spots are already occupied. We were lucky someone was just about to leave so we were able to park there. By the time we left, around 4pm, people got creative so that they can park their cars.
We went in April, an off season, and there are no bathrooms. This was the biggest inconvenience we had since my daughter is already potty trained and we are in the process of potty training my son. And changing to dry clothes after a day at the beach was also a real challenge. I had to change in our car and did some acrobatics just to get into my clean dry clothes. I heard people say there are a couple of portable restrooms during the summer months.
There is no running water so there is no way for you to wash your sand-filled feet before you get in your car. We had to use our extra bottled water for that purpose.
The Kids Love Our Day At Brownie’s Beach (Bay Front Park)
Despite a few hiccups we had at Brownie’s Beach (Bay Front Park), the kids loved our day at Brownie’s Beach. We played in the sand and the water, collected seashells (my daughter calls them treasure), and hung out at the beach.
Brownie’s Beach (Bay Front Park) is one of the beaches near the DMV area. It’s perfect for a day trip with the entire family if you live in Northern Virginia, Washington, D.C. or Maryland. I would absolutely recommend it for families looking for a quick beach getaway from the DMV area. Watch our fun day at Brownie’s Beach (Bay Front Park) below.

Thanks, Erin! My kids love the beach too!
That looks like so much fun! Thanks for the idea!!!
We sure had an amazing time!
Looks like a perfect family friendly beach!
It really is! Most of the people in there are families relaxing and playing.
That looks a WHOLE lot better than the beaches I used to go to when I lived in that area. Sandy Point Beach was NOT a good look, LOL!
We went there last year but ended up losing my daughter. I got traumatized and swore I’m not going back there EVER! LOL!
This place looks like a great beach day trip! I’ll keep this beach in mind next time I go to Maryland!
I hope you get to check it out when you’re in the area.
SO EXCITED FOR THE GIVEAWAY!!! <3

Thanks a lot!!! <3 Really wishing for this! 😀 <3 My family and I could really use it! We love target! <3
Such a fun beach day! I cannot wait until it’s actually beach weather again in Pennsylvania. That Jersey shore is calling my name!
I can’t blame you! I love beach trips too!
I could seriously use a beach trip right about now.
Beach trips are the best!
Target gift card would be amazing to have so I can get my son so many summer clothes. I hate shopping literally when he isn’t with me because I feel like nothing will fit or I got something to small or to big ha ha.

Sounds like a great beach for the littles! It’s so nice the water stays shallow for quite a ways and there’s so much sand!
