KidloLand (An Educational App For Kids) Review + Giveaway

KidloLand an educational app for kids review and giveaway title image

KidloLand provided us free subscription in exchange for my review. As always, all opinions expressed here are honest and 100% my own.

As a mom, I am very strict when it comes to screen time. I don’t let my kids use gadgets to play games on. In fact, they know that cellphones are only for calling and taking pictures. I don’t let my kids watch videos all the time; I limit their screen time – they are only allowed to watch videos for 30 minutes or less a day, and only if needed. And I am very picky with what they watch; I don’t let them watch just for the sake of watching, it has to be something educational.

Whenever we dine out, I don’t just plop them onto their chairs and give them an iPad or phone to play with while waiting for the food; we interact with them, we play with them, and/or we walk with them. If we are going for a long drive, I sit in between them and try to entertain them as much as I could; I play with them, I sing songs with them, I feed them snack, and/or I make silly faces and sounds. Letting them watch videos is my last resort.

But, of course, there are those days when I need my daughter to sit still and finish her nebulizer dose; or if we’re traveling and they’re both fussy and I’ve already tried everything I could to entertain them, then that’s when I’ll let them watch.

My daughter loves to watch Scout and Friends, Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, or Nursery Rhymes from YouTube. I thought it was a perfect timing when KidloLand contacted me a couple of weeks ago and offered a free subscription for their app in exchange of my honest review, because my daughter is already getting bored with all these shows, she needed something new.

KidloLand is an award-winning children’s app specifically designed for kids (0-5 years) with over 800+ nursery rhymes, songs, stories, games and activities for kids. This app is compatible with your iOS and Android devices. You can read more about it here.

The App – The app is divided into several categories – nursery rhymes, stories, songs, activities, and games which means your little ones won’t get bored even if they use it all the time. We’ve only tried the nursery rhymes, stories, and songs because both my kids are too young to appreciate the activities and games.

Each category has different packs that you need to download. Although it only takes a few seconds to download and extract each pack (depending on your internet connection of course), if you’re using the app for the first time, I suggest downloading and extracting them first before showing this to your kids because we all know how impatient they could get. I had the mistake of showing them the app (because I was so excited) before I even played with it. Of course, they were so excited to check it out; I just downloaded the first pack so they can use it right away and won’t get impatient. Just make sure you have everything you need before letting them use it.

One thing really nice about the app is that once you’ve downloaded everything, you won’t need an internet connection to play any of the songs or stories which is really useful when traveling. It is very responsive and the graphics are all original and very appropriate for children; the colors are very fun and bright.

We love that it encourages us to interact with it. While the song is playing or the story is being read, it will display arrows pointing to different sections that are clickable. When you click any of these sections, the characters and elements (like doors, radio, etc.) come alive. My daughter’s current favorite is when a mouse appears from a bowl of popcorn and says “Hello! Anybody here?” in the Hickory Dickory Dock song; she screams in excitement (there’s a video of this below so be sure to check it out).

I love how she’s conveniently eating her puffs while watching the videos; how cozy.

Nursery Rhymes – I love that the words in the nursery rhymes are being highlighted as they are being sung; it helps mommy to sing along (because I don’t memorize all of them) and it will probably help them in their reading skills too. When each of the nursery rhyme ends, you’d have to go back to the nursery rhyme home page and select another one to play which can be a bit of a chore BUT there is already a default playlist that you can use, which I think is a really nice feature; you also have the option to edit the default playlist or create your own.

Stories – My kids love books and they love it even more when I read to them. I like that the stories have 2 options, it can either be read to the kids (using the app’s audio) or allow Mommy or the kids to read the story which came in handy because sometimes my daughter wouldn’t want to share the books we have at home to her brother (she has her moments), so we’d end up using the KidloLand apps’ stories for our story time. What’s even more fun is that the graphics are moving and making some sounds (when you click on it) while Mommy’s reading.

Here’s my son dancing to the song currently playing.

Songs – I love how the songs in the ABC and Phonics categories focuses on each letter which gives my kids more time to get familiar with the letters and their sounds. Although my daughter already knows the alphabet (and numbers), it is still helpful for her to know which words starts with which letter and how they are pronounced. So the songs here are still very useful.

Verdict: My kids LOVE this app; my son dances to the songs while my daughter sings along (sometimes she’d dance) with them. As a mom who doesn’t like her kids to watch videos all the time, I loved it too. I love how this app provides a lot of opportunity to learn – starting from the nursery rhymes to the letters and numbers, then later on reading.

Helpful tip: While I do allow them to watch these educational videos, I don’t let these videos be the sole source of their knowledge. I make sure that we interact with them, let them explore (as long as it’s safe), and teach them what they need to know. These educational videos are a great supplement for learning and not a replacement for their time with you.

We love the Kidloland app. I do think our little guy will get more out of it when he is a little older, but for now he enjoys the music and colors.

The apps look so fun. and you kids are adorable. I babysit, and they aren’t allowed on their devices. If it’s naptime, and I need them to be quiet then I let them watch tv or my niece is allowed her ipad. I let one play on my phone when I am doing her hair to keep her still.

Thank you! The app is absolutely wonderful. Sometimes letting them watch videos would allow us to do what we need to get done. My son won’t sit still when we’re cutting his nails so sometimes we would let him watch videos as well or else we won’t get done.
