7 Simple Things To Feel Good About Yourself + Maple Holistics Winter Blend Shampoo Review

7 simple things to feel good about yourself and maple holistics winter blend review title image

As a mom, your day and energy can easily be consumed by just taking care of your kids and entertaining them; so it’s not that hard to take yourself for granted in the process. To be honest, I am one of those moms who easily gets lost in all the craziness that happens every day in their life. Luxury for me these days are being able to take a shower, put my moisturizer and lotion on, and spending a good 5 minutes all by myself before hearing “Where’s mommy?” or “Mommy, come here!”.

I know how doing something for yourself can be such a chore when you have kids especially those that you constantly need to follow around. Which is why I’ve come up with some things, simple enough to do which only needs 10 minutes or less of your time, to make you feel good about yourself.

Style your hair – Since having kids, I’m always in a rush to do everything especially during weekdays that I just let my hair dry after taking a shower then put it up in a ponytail (even if it’s still wet *cringe*). My parents are visiting from Philippines and helping out A LOT at home which means I get to have some additional time for myself; so one weekend, I tried allotting additional 10 minutes for myself after showering and blow dried my hair. I felt “me” again; and it just felt so good. Before doing so, why not start with cleaning your hair with a nice shampoo like Maple Holistics Winter Blend Shampoo (more on this below) and then, of course, condition it.

Wear your favorite perfume or shade of lipstick – It doesn’t matter if you’re not going anywhere and just staying at home with the kids, just wear either your favorite scent of your favorite lipstick shade (or why not both) and be amazed by how quickly it can boost your mood.

Smile – Never underestimate the power of a sincere smile; why don’t you breathe heavily and smile at your kid who’s been trying to push you to your limits today since morning or smile at your husband who forgot to do what you asked him to do. You’ll be surprised at how good that will make you feel instead of screaming and expressing your frustration.

Put your favorite clothes on – It doesn’t have to be a form-fitting dress for it to make you feel good; it can be anything that when worn will instantly give you a confidence boost. Anything flowy (tops, dresses, and skirts) does the trick for me.

Connect with a friend – Just like in other aspects of your life, becoming a mom can easily make you feel disconnected with friends especially if you’re the only one among your circle who has kids. But try to connect with them every once a while; a quick text or call with a good friend of yours can instantly brighten your mood. Find out what’s happening on their lives and you can also share all the crazy things that you’ve had to deal with since the last time you talked.

Spend time with your partner – It’s so easy to take your partner for granted with all the hustle and bustle of your parenting life so try to allot at least 30 minutes a day to just reconnect with each other. You don’t have to go out on a date (but that would be better), you can simply enjoy a cup of coffee together (if you both love coffee) at home or have your favorite snack together after the kids go to bed while talking about your day (try not to talk about your kids) or something you want to do or a movie you want to see. You’ll be amazed at how this can quickly give you that positive mood boost.

Snuggle with your loved ones – Because there’s nothing like ending a long exhausting day by snuggling up with people you love. It simply makes everything worth it and makes you want to do it all over again the next day.

I hope that you’d set aside a few minutes a day to do any of these for yourself; I know I will.

Now, let’s go to the review part of this post.

Maple Holistics had contacted me a few weeks ago and offered to give me a free product of my choice in exchange for an honest review. When I perused their site, the Winter Blend Shampoo caught my eye simply because of its promise to take care of frizzy and brittle hair, and fly-a-ways which my hair has. As I’ve mentioned above, I haven’t given my hair the love it deserves so I can say that it’s pretty much damaged.

If you haven’t heard of Maple Holistics, here’s a little bit something of about them. They have one goal in mind: to provide a natural, holistic range of premium products which can enhance hygiene, health and daily living. The formulaic composition of each product stands out in uniqueness, quality, and effectiveness. Only the purest and highest quality ingredients are used in each product, maximizing the therapeutic potential for each specific area of health. Some of the products offered include therapeutic shampoos, facial masks, bath soaks and more. You can learn more about them here.

The Winter Blend shampoo is a sulfate-free shampoo with 5 different mint varieties – wild mint, bergamot mint, spearmint, peppermint, and eucalyptus mint. You can learn more about the shampoo here.

Usage Instructions – Massage quarter-sized amount throughout scalp. Allow the therapeutic benefits a few minutes (2-3) to osmose before rinsing. Repeat and follow with a final rinse.

The moment you open the bottle and start pouring it in your palm, the minty smell immediately spreads over the room. The shampoo is very thick and forms a rich foam as you massage it to your scalp but still found it easy to rinse. As you leave it on your hair for 2-3 minutes to osmose (as per instruction), you can feel the cooling sensation gradually enveloping your scalp. I am not a fan of those minty shampoos because I feel like the tingly sensation is too strong, but the Winter Blend shampoo has just right amount so I liked it.

I experimented with the Winter Blend shampoo and have used it without and with conditioner (I used my regular Pantene Conditioner with it). I love that it has performed consistently good even if I didn’t use a conditioner after. One thing I hated about using just shampoo is the fact that they leave my hair sticky, even those shampoos that already have conditioner mixed in them, but the Winter Blend shampoo surprisingly did not which is what made me like it even more. Without using conditioner with it, it left my hair soft and silky all day; with conditioner, my hair is even softer and silkier. I also like that it leaves a nice minty smell the whole day that’s not too overpowering; my husband even commented on how good it smelled.

Verdict: Although it did not magically treat my damaged hair after one week of using it, I still love that my hair did feel really soft and silky every single day that I’ve used it so I am thinking it’s going in the right path. I know that hair treatments doesn’t do any drastic changes over night; I’ve used hair treatment products before which have worked only after I have consistently used for a while so I am not expecting too much on this shampoo. I might go ahead and try the Winter Blend Conditioner with it and hopefully my damaged hair will be back to its original beautiful self.

  • This is a great post! The little things really do make such a big difference. I type this with a birds nest of hair after letting it air dry last night! You’ve motivated me to put on some lipstick today when I take my son to the library 🙂 Yesterday started a 7 day series I’m doing on self-care, I’m going to incorporate some of your tips to compliment what I’m already working on!

    • I’m really happy that you found this useful. I can’t wait to read about your self-care series. Please do share it when you’re done so I can learn from it as well. Anything that we can do to take care of ourselves, as a mom, is very helpful. 🙂

Your suggestion to wear your favorite outfit reminded me of something I did when I was unhappy at my last job. I made an effort to dress up in theme (i.e., 90210 Brenda Walsh) to keep my morale up until I eventually resigned. It totally worked. Great tips! Thanks for sharing.

    • It is really amazing how dressing up can really make you feel good. By the way, Brenda’s outfits are amazing! I am glad to know it worked for you and I’m even happier that you’ve finally left the job you are unhappy about. 🙂

  • I haven’t worn perfume for about a year and just recently started again.. its so amazing how something so simple can make a huge difference!

    • It really is and it’s so easy to take them for granted because they’re so simple. I myself have to make a conscious effort to do these things. Thank you for stopping by.

  • I am in the worst self esteem rut. Thanks for the reminder to take time for the little things that can get us out of our funk.

    • Glad you liked it. I hope you get out of it soon. Have a great weekend! 🙂

  • I love natural products especially for my hair! I’m a firm believer that going natural has made my hair grow longer and stay healthier (which means I can wash it less and get fewer haircuts which saves me money!)

    • I agree; natural is always good for you. Thank you for stopping by.
